Hedgehog visits and links

This is our second year of seeing hedgehogs visit the garden and what a treat this has been! I have been very lucky to capture video and photos and have been delighted to share them. You many be interested in building a hedgehog house or a feeding station. I have certainly had fun building mine and really enjoy seeing them use my feeding station. I wonder if my hedgehog house is in use now.

Numbers of hedgehogs are in decline. If you don’t have hedgehogs or are not likely to ever see them then I hope you enjoy the ones that visit my garden. I have also added some links at the bottom of this post if you are looking for more information on this wonderful visitor.

The number of hedgehogs is sadly declining around here - I guess many have been killed by the increasing number of cars. Maybe people also keep their gardens too neat so that the hedgehogs can't find a suitable place for winter. Glad to see that you take such good care of yours!

    Hi there Katarina :-)

Interesting to hear about the situation in Sweden. Thanks for sharing that.

Strangely enough the conservationists here use road kill as a guide to population spread and numbers. They suggest that when there are none seen on road then the problem is worse. They see road kill as positive and that there enough surviving to replace these losses o-)

Yes, I agree that tidy gardens don’t help wildlife like the hedgehog. I do tidy up a little then too but I also leave small areas wilder too. I also have many ground cover plants and shrubs that are evergreen too which helps the hedgehog. I suppose as gardeners we should consider a balance where possible :-)

    Have a great week :-D
